Perplex City
In exciting news (well, exciting only to *me*), the buried Cube that people have been looking for for three years as the goal of the Perplex City treasure hunt/alternate reality game/trading card game has been found! The finder gets a nifty $200,000 prize, too. Wish it had been me.
And, happily, the "Second Season" of the game starts on March 1st! Woohoo!
It's a very strangely addicting game. Being an "alternate reality game", there is a continuing storyline that intertwines reality and fiction (you can e-mail characters from the game, clues lead you to websites that look like businesses but are actually parts of the game, etc), and the collectible card aspect comes into play because people can buy and solve puzzle cards that help lead towards the solution of the game. I think the cards are *beautifully* done and I love collecting them.
The game is based in England, but it's growing quite a cult following in the United States, and they have live events around the country where teams of players solve puzzles or have scavenger hunts that further the plot of the game. I've managed to get my brother and one of his friends quite addicted to the game, so we're hoping they have another live event in Chicago this season that we can go to.

Wow...just heard on the radio that Anna Nicole Smith is dead. That's really shocking, and sad.
